📝 Your team does not need a perfect leader. They need a present one.
Building high-performing teams in the age of AI starts with one thing most leaders skip.

Here is something I have learned from two decades of leading teams through change:
The quality of a team is almost never determined by the talent in the room.
It is determined by the safety in the room.
Whether people feel free to say what they actually think. Whether they trust that disagreement will not cost them their standing. Whether the leader at the front of that room is genuinely present, not performing leadership while mentally composing her next email.
In the AI era, this matters more than ever. Because AI can now do many of the technical tasks that used to require a large, specialised team. What it cannot do is create the conditions where human beings do their best collaborative work.
That is still entirely a leadership skill.
When did you last ask your team how they are really doing, and mean it?
Skill #6: Team Leadership and Collaboration
The Future-Fit Leader builds teams that are greater than the sum of their parts.
She creates psychological safety before she demands performance. She knows that a team which feels safe to take risks, voice concerns, and admit mistakes will outperform a team driven by fear, every single time.
She leverages diverse thinking intentionally. She does not just tolerate different perspectives. She actively designs for them, knowing that the best solutions emerge from the collision of different experiences and viewpoints.
She uses AI to amplify her team’s capacity. She identifies which tasks AI can take off their plates, so her people can focus on the work that requires human judgment, creativity, and connection.
She leads with presence, not just direction. She understands that her team does not primarily need her to have all the answers. They need to feel her genuine engagement with the challenges they are facing together.
🤖 AI Leadership Insight
AI is transforming what teams need to do. It is not transforming what teams need to feel.
They still need to feel seen, valued, trusted, and part of something that matters. They still need a leader who notices when something is off, who creates space for the hard conversations, and who models the kind of humanity that holds a team together through uncertainty.
As AI takes more of the technical work, the relational and cultural dimensions of leadership become not less important, but more important.
In the AI era, presence is your most powerful leadership tool.

🧘 Wellness Tip: The Presence Practice
Choose one team interaction this week, just one, where you put down everything else and give your complete, undivided attention.
No phone. No open laptop. No mental list of what comes next.
Just you, fully there, with another human being.
Notice what becomes possible in that space.
💡 AI Prompt of the Week: The Team Architect
For Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude:
Copy/Paste this:
“Act as my team leadership coach. I want to build a more collaborative, high-performing team in the AI era. Ask me about my team’s current dynamics, the biggest challenges we are facing, and where I feel our collaboration breaks down. Ask one question at a time. Then give me three specific, practical actions I can take this week to strengthen psychological safety and improve our collective performance.”
